CHANDIGARH: The absence of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the by-elections for four assembly seats in Punjab seems to have benefitted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that won three of the four assembly seats.

Pritpal Sharma, the AAP candidate who had unsuccessfully contested Gidderbaha in 2017, resigned from the party and switched to the BJP after Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon was declared as the AAP candidate.

Chandigarh: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday won three of the four assembly seats – Gidderbaha, Chabbewal and Dera Baba Nanak – while the main opposition Congress snatched the Barnala seat from it.

AAP is leading in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha while Congress is leading only on one seat in Barnala. The BJP is at third position in all four seats. Notably, Congress won in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha in the 2022 Punjab elections and AAP won in Barnala.

The bypolls were necessitated after the incumbent legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab on Saturday won three of the four Assembly constituencies on which elections were held on November 20, giving a morale boost to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The vote counting for the by-polls to four assembly seats in Punjab has been completed. According to the results, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has bagged Dera Baba Nanak, Chhabbewal, and Gidderbaha Assembly seats with a significant margin and highest-ever vote share.

While Congress could only win Barnala, the AAP won Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha seats in the Punjab bypolls.
