Some residents evacuated after a sinkhole opened up on their street will soon be able to return home. A void emerged on Nant Morlais in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, on Sunday that was said to be 9-12m (30-40ft) deep and five metres (16ft) wide. There were worries householders might not be able to return until after Christmas.

The pit in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, has continued to expand, with further cracks appearing in the road surface, council leader Brent Carter has said.

It could be months until evacuated residents are able to return to their homes, one home owner says.
