The latest Star Wars series, titled Skeleton Crew, bills itself as a throwback to the Amblin adventure movies of yesteryear. But the Dec. 2 premiere on Disney+ also featured some Easter eggs and callbacks to franchise moments of the past.

A new Star Wars series hit Disney+ today, and it is winning the hearts of critics and audiences who have rated it at 94% and 88%, respectively, on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows a group of kids lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy following a mysterious discovery on their home planet.

Skeleton Crew is approaching the space opera a little differently. It feels as if every new Star Wars thing either tries that and ends up searching for an audience or is so cloyingly loyal to the established lore that it is closer to bashing action figures together than telling a story.
