Bangladesh has informed the United Nations that the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a leader of the Sanatan Jagaran

A Hindu monk has been arrested in Bangladesh, days after spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das was put behind bars, triggering massive protests by the minority community members in the South Asian nation.

As India criticized Bangladesh over the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, Dhaka reaffirmed its commitment to communal harmony and pledged to protect all citizens, regardless of their religious background.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Thursday expressed solidarity with priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on charges of sedition for allegedly raising a flag on a stand displaying Bangladesh's national flag.

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, an ISKCON priest and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was arrested on November 25, 2024, by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's detective branch.

"We strongly protest such arrests and appeal to the Bangladesh government to give protection to minorities,” claimed Radharamn Das, the vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON.

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Tuesday condemned the arrest of ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das by the Bangladesh authorities and said that it is not going to do any good to the country or its image.

ISKCON monk Chinmoy was reportedly held in Bangladesh for alleged sedition, during his rallies in Chattaogram and Rangpur. He was arrested from the Dhaka International Airport by the Detective Branch of Dhaka Police.

The Government of Bangladesh has strongly refuted a statement made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, labelling the claims as "unfounded" and contrary to the spirit of friendship between the two nations.
