The 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, held in two phases on November 13 and 20 across 81 constituencies, ended

Jharkhand’s JMM, led by Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren, is on track for a second consecutive term as part of the INDIA bloc. Kalpana entered politics earlier this year after Hemant Soren faced legal challenges.

CM Hemant Soren-led party emerged as the single largest in Jharkhand that secured 34 assembly seats. JMM chief is set for term 2 as the party steered the INDIA bloc to victory.

Former chief minister Champai Soren won at his home turf Seraikella, defeating JMM's Ganesh Mahali by a margin of over 20,000 votes.

In Gandey, Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, was leading with over 13,000 votes. While Kalpana Soren secured 1,11,618 of the total votes counted, the BJP’s Muniya Devi was trailing behind with 98,562 votes.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren will go to Raj Bhavan in Ranchi at 4 pm to resign and stake the claim to form the government again in Jharkhand. The Hemant Soren-led JMM steered the INDIA bloc to victory on November 23 with 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.

The Barhait Assembly constituency covers areas from both Sahebganj and Godda districts and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. This constituency falls under the Rajmahal Lok Sabha constituency. Barhait has been a stronghold of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the Santhal Pargana division as the party has registered victory since 1990.
