The California Legislature kicked off a special session Monday with two bills aimed at preparing the state for future litigation against the incoming Trump administration.

The new laws would protect access to the medication abortion drugs and penalize those who interfere with reproductive rights, officials said.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta says that the California Department of Justice will be sponsoring both bills in the California Assembly to protect abortion rights in California.
